The End of the Convention

So...the convention is over, it was thrilling (yawn). Frank held a delicious breakfast, our swag was better received than anything the actual campaigns gave out and the PC Party is leaving this campaign as divided and fractured as it entered on Friday night. Heard lots of grumbling about the format this weekend, but as I write this, I can say at least it's over......for now

Signing Off

Your shirts are made in....

Just picked up a niffy t-shirt from the Tory convention. Low and behold, each of these t-shirts are made in Honduras and imported to Markham through Mexico. Wonder where the t-shirts that were publicized as "made in Canada" yesterday were really made?

Second ballot wrapped up

After the second ballot results were read, Hudak was rushed out of the room past any media, Elliott hugged Klees and the audience was left to wander the halls

Run for your life

After Elliott's second ballot defeat, a mass exodus of any remaining Progressives in the PC Party were seeing running from the Markham convention site; causing traffic chaos on Warden Avenue

Check out Adam Rawandski's story on Elliott being the last red Tory:

People have been asking...

who wears the pants.

we're not sure - but we do know who holds them up.

Let's Make a Deal

After the results of the first ballot were announced, Hillier's campaign manager, Tristan Emmanuel, was seen entering Tim Hudak's war room to presumably put them over the top. It's official, the Four 'H' Team (Harris/Hutton/Hillier/Hudak) is united

How insulting

Word is, in the middle of announcing the first ballot, the organizers mispelt St.Catharines.... Nickel Belt too... Looks like Harris's cuts to education are still having an effect

Same old story, same old Tories

The Tories just handed out their main convention release with the President touting "the road ahead." Geez, I wonder where I heard that before... wasn't that the title of the 2003 Ernie Eves Platform???

OntarioPC Party Members United At Leadership Convention
(Markham, ON)-Members of the Ontario PC Party hit the convention floor in Markham today revitalized and united anticipating the announcement of the party's next Leader.

"Our party is looking forward to the road ahead," said Party Presiden Ken Zeise. "From the participation we have witnessed throughout this contest to here today, they are re energized and excited for the new direction we will be taking with our 2011 election campaign."

Hundreds of Tories gathered Friday night at a reception to kick-off the convention approximately 700 Ontario PC Party members are expected to attend Saturday to participate in the day's festivities that included a tribute to outgoing Leader John Tory, a speech from federal Minister of Defence and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, Peter MacKay, as well as the announcement of the new Leader.

Here's the 2003 Budget release:

Conservatives Announce Platform: THE ROAD AHEAD
On May 16, 2003, Premier Ernie Eves announced the release of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party’s election platform titled "The Road Ahead." The document has been long anticipated since the other political parties have already released their policy platforms.
This Issues Update provides summaries of the major policy initiatives the Conservatives are promising voters if re-elected with a third straight majority government as they pertain to the land development industry. After reading the document, we have questions with several of the policy ideas proposed and will undertake to vigorously pursue answers and seek clarification. It should be noted that some of the ideas proposed have already been reflected in the Throne Speech and recent Ministerial announcements.

The stories keep coming about the conservative leadership hoax mailout

Wow...this hoax mailout is getting a lot of traction; the investigation and voter supression must make one wonder how valid the results will be. Check out this news story:

While you're reading about this, check out the official PC Party response:

This story not only has legs, but Team Klees admits it had an effect on at least one campaign's numbers:

“We received information that the fraudulent letter was received in those areas and that it appears that it has had an effect on suppressing the vote,” Ms. Buckler said in an e-mail

Is the fight for faith based schools really over?

I don’t think so.

During the leadership campaign, each candidate has called the faith based schools policy a mistake. Of course they would. They have to in order to alienate themselves from the 2007 election result.

It’s harder to distance yourself for something you so deeply believe in. The candidates have openly talked of their support for faith based schools on and off the 2007 campaign trail.

So who was really behind faith-based school funding?

As much as they try to blame John Tory for the policy - it's clear that this is not the case.

So who was it? None other than Tim Hudak and Frank Klees. But really, all the candidates supported the issue

Check it out for yourselves -- here's an attack ad that's been floating around.

While you're at it check out this letter from 2007 singling out Frank Klees for his push for the policy.

Come on candidates - update your twitters!

You'd think the candidates would update their twitter....

Only Klees has with his breakfast party invite.

Signs of life!

Finally, some life at the PC Convention…

PC Members are showing up but mostly staff trickling in at this hour. Registration opened four minutes ago but no rush to register.

Oh well. At least I won’t have to wait in line. They just finished putting up signs about half an hour ago.

Unity (?) Breakfast for you Convention Attendees

Now this convention seems more like a convention....

Join Team Klees at their breakfast tomorrow. Darryl Wolk tells me everyone is welcome

Bloggers, candidates alike call for unity in the lead up to the vote, even Tim Hudak

Calls for party unity in the lead up to the vote

"One big happy party"??

Of course all the candidates "want" party unity...even Tim Hudak with all of his caucus and candidate support (mind you, his party unity consists of those who agree with his leadership campaign....)

Hudak was apparently speaking about party unity back in the day before John Tory resigned, according to PerezHudak.

Party unity indeed.

I guess this story has legs...

It’s always interesting when the kick off to leadership convention weekend is an intimidation scandal…

Ballot Boxes Opened Tonight

Turns out they’re counting the ballots tonight at the hotel

The countdown begins in Markham..

Just got up to Markham and getting ready for the PC Leadership Convention. The hotel is dead silent. I’ve only seen hotel staff, a sports team on vacation, young children and no campaign teams. I guess they’re all planning to arrive around dinner as that’s when the first planned event is set to begin at 7.
